Why Did Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Become So Popular?

The popularity of JoJo’s did not come from nowhere, its one of the best selling manga of all time, selling over 100 million copies. This is despite the fact that due to licencing issues most of JoJo’s has not been made available outside of Japan.

When you look back, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure was never the most popular manga in Japan when compared to Dragonball during the late ’80s. Normally when a manga does well, there’s usually an anime running alongside it. This was, unfortunately, something JoJo’s never got; instead, it received a short OVA back in 1993.

The 13-episode OVA adaptation was genuinely awful, it skipped Part 1 and 2, skipping most of the back-story, and also left out most of Part 3. The Animation was low quality and the voice acting was downright terrible and includes none of the charms JoJo’s is known for.

2007 rolled by and a feature film adaptation of the manga’s first story arc, “Phantom Blood”, was released in Japan. The movie only saw a very limited release and was never released on any home media.

Few more years passed and at this point, the manga has moved to Seinin instead of Shonen so the creator Hirohiko Araki could explore more adult concepts and focus on his art since he switched from a weekly release to a monthly one. During this time the popularity of JoJo’s pretty much stayed the same until 2012 happed!

At a press conference celebrating the 25th anniversary of the series, a brand new anime adaptation of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure was announced. The newly announced anime was not only bursting with charm but was faithful as well. Although the story might have been more than 30 years old at this point, the pace and art style of the anime made it feel far more modern than it actually was.

What’s The Viewing Order for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure?

Truth be told you can watch each part of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and still enjoy the show but you’ll miss some detail, for example, the Hamon is introduced in part 1 during the Phantom Blood arch, but in part 2 they use it without any real explanation of the power.

So once and for all this is the viewing order of every season of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and what each part of the story they cover.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Season 1 Phantom Blood

This season includes both Part 1 and 2 in their entirety. The story follows Jonathan for 9 episodes then moving on to cover his smart-ass grandson Joseph for the rest of the 26 episode run of the anime.

Season 2 Stardust Crusaders

The second season of JoJo’s cover the first half of Part 3 and is 24 episodes long. The anime follows the story of Jotaro Joseph’s grandson as he travels to Egypt while beating the living crap out of everyone he encounters with his punching ghost.

Season 3 Battle In Egypt

Season 3 of the anime concludes the events of part 3 and is 24 episodes long.

Season 4 Diamond is Unbreakable

This 39 episode season of JoJo’s covers the entirety of Part4. The anime follows Josuke as he tracks down the kink-shames, a poor serial killer just trying to live the quiet life.

Season 5 Golden Wind

Just as the previous season, this season also consists of 39 episodes, and is currently ongoing, following join Giorno on his gangster adventure.

If you want to continue on with manga from here you can start from chapter 595 of the manga.
